Coos County Creatives Meeting

Coos County Creatives Meeting

On Tuesday February 6, 2024, The new Dean of Arts at SOCC, Dr. Douglas Goodwin, PHD, invited Coos County creatives to meet with him on the main floor of the SOCC Library. Shinan Barclay set up the meeting and this is what Dr. Douglas Goodwin, PHD wrote to several folks who are involved in the arts in our community in one way or another. "SWOCC leadership would like to see the relationship with our community strengthen, and one of those pathways is via the arts. We are aware of the thriving artistic community in Coos County and surrounding areas, but honestly, as a new member of the community, I am not as informed as I'd like to be. So, I am interested in learning from leaders such as yourself about what is going on locally, in the arts. And hopefully, with the more I learn, we can come up with new ways (or bring back older ways) to bring our community and college together in a more collaborative and supportive manner. I'd love an opportunity to meet with you and learn more, as well as try to answer any questions you might have."

BAAA was among those invited and several of our board members attended, secretary, Victoria Tierney, co-secretary Wendy Whitaker, newsletter and webmaster, Nicole Graham and president, Archi Davenport. Several others involved in the arts were in attendance and it was a very productive meeting. For BAAA we were assured that our fall show in Eden Hall was secure, and we have a date from Art director, James Fritz, for our show to begin on September 20th and stay up during their pottery sale through November 27, 2024.
